Portrait of photographer Marcus Boéll

I’m Marcus Boéll, and I’d like to briefly introduce myself so you get an idea of the person behind the camera – whether you’re planning a shoot with me or maybe joining me on a photo trip.

My journey began in Berlin in 1972, and I discovered photography as a balance to my demanding job in the police force. Perhaps my passion for photography also lies in my roots: my father was a passionate amateur photographer himself. I still remember how often he said: “Marcus, sit down over there and look into the camera.” Those staged pictures shaped my approach to photography in a lasting way.

So what makes my photography special?

My aim goes beyond simply capturing moments. I want to tell stories through images and capture authentic emotions. For me, it is essential to express the true nature of the people I photograph. I give my images my own unmistakable style – shaped by dynamism, femininity and a touch of sensuality. Only in this combination do true works of art come to life for me.

What does it mean to reveal someone’s true self?

In everyday life we play many roles – as a partner, daughter, son, friend, mother, father, employee or employer, and so on. These roles often define how we behave and how we present ourselves to the world. Unfortunately, we often lose sight of our true self along the way.

We tend to adapt in order to avoid conflict or to be liked by others. We shy away from saying “no” for fear of the consequences or of rejection. All too often, we let our fears guide us.

“Revealing your true self” means breaking through this protective shield of roles and adaptations in order to recognise and live your authentic self. It’s about reconnecting with your inner values, needs and beliefs – without being limited by the expectations of others.

With my photography I especially want to encourage women to rediscover their femininity. In my view, many women in our society have lost touch with their authentic femininity. Instead of staying true to themselves, they have often adapted to avoid conflict or to meet other people’s expectations – and in doing so have neglected their own femininity.

This can make women feel less confident, because they are no longer anchored in their natural role and identity. My goal is to encourage women to find their way back to their very own femininity and to help them feel comfortable in their own skin.

“Anyone who plays a role is only running at half power.”

“Anyone who plays a role only acts half-heartedly. A lack of authenticity is always sensed, even subconsciously. Those who let go of a role, on the other hand, come across as authentic, confident and attractive.

Through my photography I aim to reveal the true essence of a person. My goal is to look behind the façade and encourage women to feel completely themselves again – without worrying about what others might think or say. I encourage you to take off the masks and rediscover yourself. To achieve this, I even include short meditations in my photo shoots. Come back to your inner feminine strength. Let go of the fears that keep draining your energy, and be yourself. And yes – of course you’re allowed to be sexy, without being judged for it.”

A photo shoot becomes an exciting journey to your inner self. I promise you: when you open up and let the “wall of your ego” fall, unforgettable moments are created and captured forever. In that moment, photography becomes a true art form – because you, as the artist, create and reveal something that lies deep within you. Just as a sculptor carves a sculpture out of a solid block of marble, the photograph is waiting for you to bring it to light.

That’s why photography begins with you. As a photographer, I create an atmosphere in which a real connection can develop during the shoot – a space of complete trust where you can fully let go. I’m convinced that you are at your most beautiful when you are completely yourself, without worrying about how you come across.

This is the philosophy I live in every phase of my photography. Anyone who has taken part in one of my shoots will confirm it. Have a look at the impressive experiences my models share on this website – I think they describe a shoot better than I ever could.

But what makes me a good coach? Rather than simply telling you how long I’ve been working in different fields, I want to point out that years of experience are no guarantee of excellent coaching – just as an experienced football player isn’t automatically an outstanding coach.

My main goal is not only to share knowledge with you, but to make sure you truly understand it and can put it into practice. For me, the real measure of effective coaching is the success of the participants. When I see them internalise what they’ve learned and apply it on their own, and when I hear feedback like “I never thought I could create such impressive images”, that is the most valuable confirmation for me.

Now you’ve had a glimpse into my approach and philosophy as a coach. I’d love to meet you in person at a photo shoot or at one of my workshops. Until then, warm regards.

Best wishes,
Marcus Boéll
